working away from home the last couple of weeks, hours ago had a middle of nowhere breakdown: pulling off the interstate heard a crunch, then lost power steering, battery light came on. i immediately thought alternator, shredded belt... under the hood: looks like the idler pulley ring disconnected and is sitting flush against wheel well; serp belt is off but looks intact...anyway, querying the list i think i've got a good sense of potential issues
i'm wondering/worrying: if this had caused further damage, what would that likely be and what signatures could i identify while i wait to get it to a saabtech on monday . in the town i'm stuck in, a dealer is the only saaber option (and brand new apparently, which makes me think they're just a bunch of gm mechanics with saab manuals; arghh), the nearest good saab indie a 215 mile tow. i ran the engine for about a minute and a half after the incident before shutting down (have not restarted since i identified the belt/pulley issue!).
