i should mention: it is the main pulley lowest to the ground...sorry for the nontech language; i'm sure you're sick of saabnet tourists who come out of the shadows for emergencies...but it appears the grooved ring on which the belt rides/spins somehow separated from the shaft and took the belt with it.
there are 2 thumb size oil stains against the wheel well from where the pulley flew off, nothing else immediately noticeable.
could a microsecond long squelch i heard on cold starts itermittently over the last week been a signature?
my '92 9kt has 124k, well maintained; replaced timing+balance shaft chains and tensioner at 107k.
thanks. just trying to get best sense possible of the immediate problem, what causes it, and any potential issues surrounding it...will help me as i also figure out if it's worth the big bucks to tow the car 250 miles to an indy i trust or have a saab dealer in the town i'm stuck in get under the hood monday..they are a cadillac dealership apparently new to saabs by a year and i'm not sanguine about their experience on older models to say the least.
