It is an effort to shifting thinking back to ac when it's below 0 (F).
I am guessing that you have converted from r12 to r134a. Was the expansion valve changed? Has the system been leak tested? How many times have the pressures been checked for leakage? Is the condensor fan behind the grill working?
In a converted system, you should eventually see 50F from the center vents on all but the very hottest days.
The most important thing with an r134a converted system is to have the system deep vacuumed and then charged to the ideal low and high side pressures. My experience is that (in farenheit) on a hot day the high side pressure (in psi) should be 3 times the ambient outside air temperature with the engine at 1500 rpms. For instance, if it's 100F outside, the high side pressure at 1500 rpms should be 300 psi.
If you are not getting good cooling, check for leaks by monitoring the pressures. If the pressures remain more or less the same (proportional to outside air temperature) over a few weeks, then you may have other problems. The best solution would be to get a condensor designed for r134a and have it professional fitted to your car.
Chrysler AC has always been excellent in my experience and it's unfair to compare a car converted to r134a with a system designed for r134a.
