I would echo many of the comments so far. The space in the 9000 was the key buying point for me when I traded a C900 for a new 9000CS in 1997. It hauls the family of 5 around easily (not as easy now that my boys are nearing full grown), and I can put my bike inside with one side of the back seat folded down. The floor is not as flat as the C900, but it still holds an amazing amount of stuff. I don't think the 9-5 offers as much utility, but that's just my opinion.
It drives very differently than the C900 and I ended up buying a C900 TC for summer driving only... this satisfies my longing for driving the old 900's.
Repairs can be more expensive than in the C900, but it doesn't seem to need them as frequently.
In my mind, the 2.3L 4 cylinder with stick is the only combination to consider. Turbo makes it even better.
