most people here know that I will defend the auto any chance I get!

Browse the archives, and you will note far more problems posted about the manual/stick tranny as opposed to the auto. And there were more auto's made than manuals...

Having a turbo mated to an auto tranny is awesome. "Point and squirt" is the common phrase associated with the feeling. Low- to no- turbo lag at all.

As for the year to buy, each has its pro's and con's. The consensus, though, is MY '94+ (avoiding TCS), definitely '96+. '98 was the last year of production, if that matters to you, and contains some Aero parts (the stick version of that year also came with the Mistsubishi TD-04 turbocharger, as is found in the Aero).

I have a '93 900T convertible, as well as a '98 9000CSE auto. Both are incredibly fun cars to drive, and both handle the road differently. The 9000 is smoother and fit for long drives, very luxurious and rich feeling, and much faster. The 900 is lower to the ground, more nimble, and real "Saab" feeling (they tried to "American-ize" the 9000).

You will not regret going to a 9000 from a 900. I did it, even when I had an NG900 ('96) in between the two.

And for your commutes in traffic, nothing beats an auto (main reason why I bought my 9000 with an auto).

Good luck!!!!!

Joe
