I just installed a blue unit that I purchased months ago from Kachina ($90) and it works fine. FWIW, they are not merely repainted red units, as the shape of the frame (painted area) is different. There are slots at the top and bottom center and a hole at one end of the frame. It isn't as attractive, but who cares if it works? These are not available through the Saab parts network, but through the authorized tools vendor for Saab dealer (forget their name).
Mine shows no sign of having ever been used, so I suspect they are functionally identical new coils installed on a slightly different frame. Since the coils are epoxied on, I doubt if they are remanned, but if they are refurbs containing new coils who cares? Anyway, I was told they were not remanned.
Mike Lewis, who helped us out at Kachina, is no longer working there, but moved back to Boston. I don't think Saab thinks highly about these units being sold to customers, but the dealers can get them from their tools supplier and I don't think Saab can stop dealers from reselling them. Neither the dealers nor Saab should have any interest in selling you a $100 DI when they could hit you for a $300 unit (or whatever they cost).
