Why not just consider going for a higher capacity battery rather than messing around with a second and the associated connectivity that goes with it ... you can get a 75aH battery which should easily cope with extra demand your computer would place on it ...
As far as voltage fluctuations are concerned, would not the battery itself act a a big old voltage damper? I might be mistaken on this, but I'm pretty sure that the 14v charging current produced by my charger is pulled down to 12v by the battery it's connected to. Again, if you use an approve voltage converter, you'll probably find that these issues have been considered and there will be voltage regulator built in... Noise - surely that would be controlled by a suppression system, but again aren;t these AUDIO issues caused by spurious RF output from the alternator??
I can only vouch for my own experiences here, but I've run my laptop from a switched 12v outlet and a 12v converter (the Toshiba I use requires an 15v supplied by a Toshiba 12-15v step-up adaptor) and I can;t think that would ever use so much juice from the battery that it would require a secondary unit...
One last question - what's the voltage requirement of your computer kit... are you considering an inverter to give AC to run a 'domestic' PC in your car??
I wonder if you're seeing too much of a problem....
Hope it goes well anyway...
