Lots of guys on this site have tried to use the early 9000 CV procedure on later model 9000s and had a miserable time of it.
I agree with Swedecar, the axles have to be removed from the car. I, however, don't like hitting stuff with a hammer. Brass hammers also have tendency to flake.
I use a good three jaw puller to remove the inner driver, after carefully marking the location. Then I slide or cut the old boots off, clean everything up and slide new boots back on and tap the inner driver back into place. Quick, easy and no banging necessary.
Maybe if I were a pro mechanic I wouldn't want to have to change the inner boots, but a guy working on his own cars is already saving so much money that the extra $20 shouldn't be a problem.
