"Put one foot on the hub assembly to brace yourself, and with the other foot, kick the crap out of the assembly".
This was to get the cv joint back into the hub after replacing the boot! And what a time I had just trying to do that.
Getting the cv joint out of the hub (I did it with the axle still in the car) almost caused a 3rd World War between my wife and me, since she was in the car turning the steering wheel to give me better clearance. She was doing everything right; I was just ready to spontaneously combust from anger because I could not get the damn thing out. After pushing, pulling, banging, etc., it finally came free.
There's nothing more I can add other than to keep trying and it will eventually come apart.
