Radio Shack or such. Biggest thing is play with it on wires twiste togeather and solder to make the connection, tinning is laying on solder onto a surface before attaching the item to another. Read our back posts on the headlight Hi/Lo and Control Relays.
Get a chisel tip on the iron, conical pointy tip is not very handy. A file can customize it and then just retin the tip. A sponge or paper towel well moistened to wipe the tip EACH time before you solder keeps crud out of the junction. It cools the tip momentarily hardening the junk letting the wipe action sluff the stuff off and you have a shiny clean tip, add solder now touch iron to target and add solder. A dry tip won't xfr heat. wet solder touchs all and max heat is applied. On and out in 4 seconds is target time.
