As the others have mentioned, you'll probably need to swap pulleys. No big deal.
Alternators should last forever. About the only things that go wrong with the alternator are the bearings or the diode block. The bearings would be noticeable in shaft play. As to the diode block, it's either good or it isn't. As a data point, I've never had an alternator bearing problem, and I've only had one diode block fail in three 9000's. And I consider that to be a fluke. So the alternator should be fine if the shaft spins nicely.
However, 9000 or 900, the brushes wear out. It's good to replace the Voltage Regulator, which comes with new brushes. If you really want to save money, some VRs allow you to replace just the brushes (if you can solder). But my recommendation would be to, at a minimum, pull the two VRs you've got, and inspect the brushes. Very easy with the alternator out. Go with the one with the best (and longest) brushes. If they look worn or there isn't much left, do yourself a favor and invest in a new VR.
