R+R Timing Cvr with Engine in? Posted by Dana [Email] (#2822) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dana) on Mon, 24 May 2004 11:17:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Car is a 97 9000cs, 2.3, 5 Spd, 70k miles
Is it possible to replace the timing cover w/o pulling the engine? Is the receiving tensioner top bolt hole threaded into the block as well as the timing cover?
I partially stripped the receiving threaded hole for the serp belt tensioner top bolt, the first inch or threads are fine...probably dummest thing I've ever done working on cars ;-(. I lightly ran a proper size tap in there and this seemed to clear the threads. However when I installed the bolt I still had to add 4 washers to allow the bolt to snug up tight, but I don't know how long this will hold...holding fine so far (100 miles) but am concerned.
Thoughts anyone?....am curious what prof mech would do like SWEDECAR.
Thanks in advance to this very helpful group.
