If you need to buy a meter, the one at http://www.radioshack.com, Catalog #22-813 ($29.99) looks OK. Really, for this job, anything will do, but if you are going to buy one, then make sure it will measure a decent current, usually 10A, as this will be more useful for future automotive jobs.

You may see "automotive" ones, but if the Saab is your only car, forget it, as they measure things like RPM and dwell angle which only work on cars with distributors!

If you are a novice, and autoranging digital one will be easier, but really an analogue one is just as good. You can spend as much or as little as you like. Alternatively, borrow a multimeter from someone :)

The sensor has two pins on it, the meter has two probes. Connect one probe to each pin, polarity not important. If the meter is autoranging, just select Resistance (Ohms or ?). If not, select a range like 5K or 10K. The idea is to use a bowl of water, and using the thermometer and the ice or hot water, get the bowl to the temp you want. Then put the tip of the sensor into it and measure the resistance. Repeat for the temperatures on the list. You don't have to do all of them. Two or three is probably enough. And it doesn't have to be spot on, just ballpark.
