Warped brake rotors/discs (long)

Hi all,
Sorry about the apparent unnecessary length of this.
I have had my 96 CS for about 6 months now. I have replaced all four rims, as the initial set were buckled (yes all four of them). I am convinced that the car has been in an accident at some point during its life, after looking around and noticing things during routine services etc.
Anyway, to the point - Ever since I replaced the rims, there is a shuddering noticable under breaking from high speeds, usually anything over about 90km/h. I suspect I would not have noticed this before replacing the rims, as the car shuddered all the damn time then. The logical thing would be warped break discs (or rotors for those who prefer). With the front of the car on stands, spinning the front wheels i can hear the slight scraping of the pads on the discs intermittently. My question to you all is, while warped discs seems most likely, is there anything else i should worry about checking before i replace the discs, since the front end of the car has sufferend some trauma at some time in the past?
Also, if somebody knows why discs/rotors will tend to warp in the first place, could you enlighten me? is it just cheap parts to begin with, or something more integral? Just aside My parents have a fairly new (year old) holden commodore - large V6 family sedan incase any are not familiar - which has the same problem worse than my saab.
Thanks in advance,
Matt
