This is to update my 94 cs being stranded in the office parking lot since Friday.
Called Jim at Sobstory this morning. Bit the bullet and bought the fuel pump for $358. The fuel pump for MY 94 and up is so different I don't think I have any choice except to replace the complete assembly. Used a contraption (which is a copy of what Zeke recommended, see link) I built from scrap wood in my garage to turn the fuel pump flange. Removal and installation takes about 10 minutes. I did it between rains 20 minutes ago. It has been raining buckets today in New Jersey. The most difficult part is removing and fitting up of the two fuel lines to the pump. I applied a twisting action to remove and install the angle fitting.
After installation, it started right up. But I may have the fuel gage float stuck somewhere because the fuel gage registers empty even though there is more than half a tankful. I will take care of it at home.
For the first time all four of my cars have some kind of problems. The 94 cs was stranded because of the bad fuel pump. It has also not yet passed the NJ emissions inspection because of high NOx. The 94 cs turbo has a leaking cat and header pipe. It broke at the hanger point behind the engine. My guess is from improper handling of my drivetrain removal to replace the clutch two months ago. I picked the header pipe up from Sobstory today along with the fuel pump, for $271. The 93 Volvo 940 wagon, although finally passed NJ emissions inspection last week, still has a dead speedometer. I replaced the electrical speedo pickup on the differential but it was a wrong guess which cost $119. An instrument cluster is coming from Ebay. Tim's BMW 325es lost the clutch hydraulic last week. I tried to bleed it without getting the pedal to respond. It was towed home. Got both the master and slave cylinder today. Will have him do it. I know only one goes wrong. But the slave for the BMW is outside of the transmission. It is so easy to replace I figured why not.
Ah, the joy of owning old cars...
