I did heed Zeke's warning. I think the fact the fuel pump breaks down in July does help a lot. If it was mid-winter, the plastics will be much more brittle.
There are two o-rings on each 90 degree fitting which goes into the hole of the fuel pump. The fitting is snap held by a plastic hook. Zeke was right in warning not to applying moment. You push the hook back just enough so the fitting clears and grab the vetex by pulling up and twisting at the same time. I found pushing the fitting in to be more difficult pulling out. Maybe a little lubrication would have helped pushing them in but certainly you cannot use lubrication separating the fitting from the pump.
