...whatever it takes if you start the auto to manual conversion...
Once i started the process... it was keep going and don't look back, in terms of spending. IF you're paying a mechanic to do it, and not attempting it yourself, like i did.
Basically, while you have the transmission and engine out of the car, it only makes sense to install BRAND NEW conversion parts, such as the entire clutch system... and not just new, but high performance such as a dual friction clutch or sachs clutch kit... I mean you're paying for the labor, you might as well have the nicer parts installed...
...so you should get all new conversion parts... except smaller things like pedal assembly and perhaps shiter and console...
...and you should replace anything that looks worn out while the car is apart too...
This is what i did with my 1990 9000 turbo when i swapped it from auto to 5 - speed....
$1850 for a rebuilt erikson transmission... $350 for nice clutch, $400 for aluminum flywheel (you'll need one!) $300-$400 for a new clutch system and all the lines...$250 for random conversion parts from a donor car, $150 for all new motor mounts... that's just off the top of my head... then you're looking at labor... which cost me $1,600. Maybe you can find someone to do it cheaper... but this guy was the only shop owner in the area where i live who would even ATTEMPT a job like this one... and he named his price...
not to scare you away... but it's a big big job... and you COULD get cheap with all the parts you buy... but then you'll just have to pay for the same labor AGAIN when you upgrade... or if the used part FAILS...
you can see the EXACT copy of the auto to 5-speed work order on my website...
...good luck...
