SO,
Today my father and I took the plastic stone guard out from under the radiator and started the car up, let it warm right up, and constantly checked the upper and lower radiator hoses, where they connect to the engine, the radiator, and the fluid tank on the passenger side of the engine for leaks. Not a drop.
The funny thing is, even though the temp guage in the car got to the bottom of the red, the radiator really didn't heat up, and the upper rad. hose was cool to the touch (as was the driver's side of the radiator -- the passenger side was a little warmer, but not too hot to touch). The engine block got hot, but the engine cavity as a whole wasn't roasting as you might expect if the car were really overheating.
Our new hypothesis: a sticking thermostat that isn't allowing the coolant to circulate.
Interesting artifact: the fan engages well before the temp guage on the dash reads "normal" -- is this usual for the 9000? On my 900, the guage hits the middle and stays there (usually).
Where is the thermostat? We found ourselves wishing there was a Bentley manual and that we HAD the Haynes one...
Tim
