Ideally you'd do this with an electronic crossover before the amp (either in the deck, a separate box, or possibly within the amp itself). However, bass blockers can do the job, just not as well. All they are is an inline capacitor, so the rolloff slope is fairly shallow. But, it's better than nothing. I have my fronts crossed over at 120Hz, which is a bit too high, but if I use 80Hz, the distortion is even more distracting at high levels. But your speakers may be better than mine, which don't really go much below 120-100Hz. The bottom line is, any 4" speaker is going to not do well when asked to reproduce full range with no enclosure behind it, at least at higher power levels (which is most of the time if the car is driving down the road). I haven't checked which frequencies are available with bass blockers these days, but given the shallow rolloff, I wouldn't get lower than 150Hz for the dash speakers. You can make your own bass blockers with a single capacitor, possibly save some money, and get exactly the frequency you decide. Let me know if you want to consider that route.
