Hello urby!
I have no idea how to open a stuck trunk on a 9000, but i can give you a similar experience i had with a 2000 ford focus 4 door(trunk model)
they designed the car like this:
Trunk button on the dash that electronically opens trunk,
KEY in the trunk to manually open trunk...
LEVERS for folding down the rear seats ALSO in the trunk.
What happened apparently to my friends car, is the electronic locking unit failed... causing the whole thing to JAM.
They obviously tried to key, which would turn, but NOTHING HAPPEND
OH, did i mention they just had their TIRE BLOW OUT and they were on the side of the highway trying to get at their SPARE?
Really crappy story! Anyways... they even had something to try and pry the trunk open, with no luck.
So, then they said "why don't we just fol the seats down?"
Then they remembered, the levers to FOLD them down are IN THE TRUNK!
HORRIBLE design flaw... just horrible.
So, after a locksmith showed up and quoted them a $150, they said HAHA, no, we'll just get a tow truck... cause they still needed to replace the tire...
...almost a year went by with having no trunk. Several people looked at it and failed to get it open.
then they asked ME. ;)
I got a big a$$ drill bit, about 3/4", on e that i purchased with the intention of drilling though my firewall with in my 90 9k turbo...
and i drilled RIGHT through their trunk lock.
It didn't get me in the trunk, but it helped free up the jammed mechanical garbage in the already broken mechanism.
I drilled a hole in his rear shelf, and armed with a flashlight and a bent wire coat hanger, i grabbed the stupid lever and let er RIIPPP!
Seat folded down, and there was much rejoicing!
Then we ripped all of their old smelly camping equipment out, that had been in there for MONTHS, (and when i say OLD and SMELLY, i MEAN OLLLDD AND SMELLLLY!! ) :)
I ripped that stuff out, folded the other seat down, and climbed in the trunk. All curled up in the trunk with a flashlight. I peeled backl the carpet and paneling to expose the lock mechanism, and slowly begas to take out all the fasteners and screwes that attach it to the car. I finally got to a point where i could jam a screwdriver into the arms that hold the trunk shut, pryed around on them for a minute... and BOOM punched the roof of the trunk right open!
HHHOOORRRAAAAYYYYY!!!!
there was much rejoicing! :)
so... i know you can at least fold your seats down, that's a plus. I'd say if you've tried EVERYTHING ELSE, locksmithc included, or maybe dealership, but you don't want to pay the money. Then take the panel off the insdie of the trunk and look for the mechanism, just to see if it's jammed. then make your own desicions about wether you want to break it or not. It could be jammed, or rusted shut, or just f-ed...
...if you decide to pull it apart and need more help post it up here...
sorry about the long post! :)
