...seriously,,,
i'm not sure what model 9000 you have, but i have a 1990 9000 turbo.
I bought a k+n open air filter, and used it for two years. It would eventually be one of the sole factors in runing my engine.
The k+n filter kit that I bought, for about $80, attached itself DIRECTLY to my air mass meter. This arranged it directly above an open patch in my engine compartment. (open to the road directly below it)
Not only was this design poor because water and other road debris can stike the filter directly, but the filter itself is MUCH TOO CLOSE to the engine itself to suck in any cold air at all!
It's pretty much dirdctly behind the radiator, so even when moving it's sucking in already warm air... and in my opinion this causes a LOSS in horsepower...
anyways... the fact that it's open to the road killed me, when a heavy heavy rainstorm in orlando florida caused enough water to be sucked through the filter into my poor engine, hydrolocking it (ruined)
so... i bought an intake from TALIAFERRO saab. I've included a link for you to check this filter out.
This filter is INFINATELY BETTER, because:
1. it comes with the necesary tubing and hardware to extend the acutal filter AWAY from the engine and air mass meter, into the hollow fender compartment behind the drivers headlight. Further away from heat, and more likely to suck in cooler air, even at a stand still.
2. The hollow fender compartment is shielded from the road, by a panel.
So NO water will splash directly onto the filter, unless you are in about 4-6 inches of it. Which i recommend NOT DOING! :)
i have it on my car now, and it looks MUCH better than on taliaferros website, the pipe was anodized blue... and the filter blue also... check it out...
guess what? IT COSTS THE SAME AS A K+N FILTER!!!
need i say more? BUY IT! the sound of the turbo spool is very loud though, you'll love it!
