The corresponding Thermo switch to your 82c thermo should be 84C, even yer lowly VW partsman knows this :-).. Parts Supplier bungled it.
Don't be dissuaded, 82 c is plenty 'hot enough'for any purpose whatsoever.. including engine life, especially inna Saab with it's Turbo Heat generator and the Cleverly located Radiator.. behind Both the AC Condensor and the Intercooler.. Removing the Evaportator helps hugely.. but not clever if the AC still works.
The current elevated engine temps are the result meeting Emission regultations. Not too many years ago a 180 F Thermo was the 'Hot' thermostat for cold winter conditions.. (that's an 82 C one)
Moderne Times :-)
One used to run 160's normally, then as the engine aged, switching to a 180 'tightened' up the tolerances, giving the old engine a new lease on life.
