Coming back from two and half weeks vacation, I took one more day off to easy the jet lag yesterday. At noon time, wife called saying the 94 cs turbo would not run and she is stuck in a shopping center parking lot in town. So I rushed to her and tested the car. It started but idled badly for about 30 seconds and then died. It would not start again.
I then did the infamous fuel pump electric test by jumpering fuse 14 (fuel pump) to fuse 22 (hazard switch), supplying current to the fuel pump bypassing the ignition switch. No noise in the trunk area. So it has to be the fuel pump then, I concluded. At 129k miles it is also about time. Went home and immediately ordered a fuel pump from Eeuropeparts.
Got the parts at work today from UPS. Went home. Brought it to the car to start replacing it in the shopping center parking lot. Opened the flange and took out the fuel pump. Aha! The tank was empty. No wonder the fuel pump will not run. How stupid was I. Looked at the trip meter, 420 miles.
I forgot to mention this is a 94 cs turbo I bought on Ebay two years ago with a stuck fuel gage indicator I never fixed. It has been wife's daily ride and we learned to used the trip meter as the gas gage. After leaving the car in the driveway for two and a half weeks, both of us had a memory lapse on the amount of fuel in it.
So now I am left with a brand new fuel pump in my hands. The only good thing which comes out of the experience is I think I finally fixed the stuck fuel gage.
