I have a friend who has an incredible ability to run out of gas in his car. Leroy from Jamaica. For his birthday, I got him a gas can.
Then I borrowed his car because the Saab was in pieces. His gas gauge shows below the "E"! In a panic, I pull into a gas station and put in ...
$5.12 in unleaded.
This is why I love so much the "Miles to empty" function on my 88 turbo. It is so much more reliable than the actual gauge (although I hear some folks have not had this kind of luck). Once, I had it down to 9 when I pulled into the gas station.
We all have our stories about stuff we learned the "hard way". Like how it probably would have been easier to teach my wife how to drive standard than to fix up an automatic transmission car :-)
