And I would definitely characterize it as a rite of passage. Before that I'd done brakes and oil changes. Since then I've done calipers, valve cover gaskets, water pumps, belts, pulleys and other stuff like tearing my doors apart.
Use a bungie on the evaporator housing, helps out immensely, the job will take a while as you'll likely "take it easy I don't want to break it" for 30 minutes before you get pissed and pull really hard :D.
Quasi's writeup was word for word.
Also, you will want to see if you need connector hoses BEFORE you get into it, I think it's another $20 of parts (if you get connectors hoses, and clamps). I didn't loose much coolant when I did mine, but I didn't remove the hose from the block, only the small connector hoses.
