You typically use them to hold the trunk lid (hatch) down when it's over filled. Matt must have used one to hold one end of the evaporator housing and avoid sticking his arm way down into the aquarium. Yes, I know Paul: The aquarium is the space behind the false firewall which contains all this wonderfulness that we're discussing the removal of.
