...during the conversion...
in order for the key to work you need to jump a few wires in the car, to "fool" it into thinking that the auto shifter selector is in NEUTRAL, or PARK.
Think of it this way...
when the car still had an auto transmission, could you have ever started the car while it was in drive, reverse, or gears 1-3?
no, you could not have.
you can only start the car with the key while the shiter is in park or neutral.
in order to make this happen, you need to remove the center console from the car... where the e-brake is there is a screw under the handle, and also two screws in the rear of the center console behind the seats on the floor, and also two screws up front hidden under covers...
anyways...
with the console removed, you will see two wire harness connectos that arent being used anymore...
one of the connectors has wires that are noticeably larger than all the other wires.
this same connector with the larger wires, has the larger wires located as the first and last wires in the set, or outer wires on the connector if you will... (1 234 5) one and 5 are larger than 2,3+4
you need to remove those wires from the plastic connector, and stip them, and twist them together, or use a butt connector.
Now your car will start with the key normally
on the same harness... there is a small orange wire, next to a white wire... jump these together in the same manner. This is for your cruise control system, to get that to work again. It's the easiest way. These wires are pins 3 and 4. Now when you have your car started, you can hit the "cruise on" button, and the cruise light will come on on the dash.
With the cruise system operational again, you can consider cutting the orange wire that runs to PIN 30 of your ECU... this is the wire that on an automatic, raises the engine idle speed when the auto shifter is moved into gear... it raised the idle to help with the gear shift, but not it is not needed. You will find that when you start the car, without this wire cut, your car will rev high, and then momentarily return to normal... as if it had shifted into gear.... like i said, this is the only evidence of any programs built into the 90-92 ecu's difference between auto and 5-speed.
so...
do all of this...
and then try to drive your car. it might solve the problems...but...
with major problems like this evident in your car... it's very possible that they aren'y the cause... because... this is telling me that you might have forgotten some other "key" things durning this swap....
My 1990 9000 turbo came with a di/apc system STOCK... it was also an automatic STOCK...
all i did was add a clutch system, flywheel, and 5-speed tranny...
i didn't change any of the computers...
you might have injector wires swapped...
in my own honest opinion.... you need to bring it to a specialist who knows all of these things, and can work through what you've tried to do to the car, and fix it...
Jak is the man i am referring to, and his prices are very reasonable.
consider it... or consider blowing another head gasket
e-mail me for details on jak's shop
