Help need a Primer on Saab ACC - cant make sense of it!

Please can someone give me the tutorial on Saab Climate Control? I recently purchased a beautiful 98 9000 and after reading the manual its behavior still doesn't make much sense. Its like trying to get a cat to do what you want! Are these known "quirks" of the car or do I have problems that need fixing? Its cold up here in NewEngland so here are my issues:
Even when the engine is bitter cold (and the cabin is 45 degrees) in Auto mode it blasts cold air at me. I would think an intelligent car would let itself warm up first.
I set the temp to 72. When the car feels like its reaching 65 degrees - the warm air suddenly turns COLD. I have to keep creeping the setting up until its in the 80s to keep the air warm. When it reaches the correct temperature - why doesnt it just turn down the fan or blow a combination of wamr and cold? Instead it blows frigid cold air.
When I shut off the ACC becuase I am getting warm - it still gently blows very cold air at me. When I shut it off, I want it to stop blowing air! In my acura I just push the recirc button and it stops venting outside air.
I would love to be able to turn the rear defrost on without turning on the entire ACC system.
You help is appreciated!
