From what I'm hearing, the car is in great shape and you love it. The only question is some engine mounts.
You could have the mounts done for about $600 from a dealer. That's probably a small fraction of the sales tax on a new car, or even the increase in your insurance for a new car.
If you buy a used car, that car, darn it, will also require maintenance. And an unknown used car will require a different set of repairs. A few hundred bucks every once in a while is the cost of driving a car, period.
You should be able to find a indy shop to do the mounts for a lot less.
Heck, it's not that bad a job to do yourself. Yes, I've been moaning about doing the upper mounts. What I've learned about the upper mounts is to take the easy way out and bring them to a machine shop to press in. Yes, it'll take a day or two, but it's not a lot of work. If you really want easy, you can buy a new upper dogbone and new upper engine bracket WITH bushing for about $120 from eEuroparts.
The lower mounts aren't that bad. I can replace them in about 2 hours. Or pay an indy $300.
The resale value of the car is immaterial. It isn't an investment. All cars lose money. However, what is the car worth to you? If you didn't have the car - it vanished from your driveway overnight - what would your replacement cost be? How much would you have to spend to get a car you like in the same shape, with the same known maintenance history? I'll bet it would cost you many thousands of dollars.
When you've got a known good car, it's value isn't what someone else is willing to pay for it - it's what you'd need to spend to replace it. And the additional risk of any 'new' used car needing surprise work.
All cars that don't say TONKA on the side require maintenance. If the car is on it's last legs, and you'll probably be replacing it in the next few months, then, yes, ignore the mounts. But if this is a car you could keep for a few years, it's just plain dumb to dump it for a few hundred dollar repair, and go out and spend thousands on a newer car that will also require repair.
I just bought a '97 9000CSE to replace a '88 that had finally died. I gladly dropped $450 on work on this new 'pristine' car. Even if you buy a 3 year old car, you'll be looking at a 30K or 45K scheduled maintenance, and that'll cost you $300 or more easily.
