Aeroman, what is this sensor then?

I was most interested to read your post about the location of the crank angle sensor. When I bought my 1994 CS in August this year I was away from home when the car failed to start and I had it towed to a workshop. I eventually paid for a new crank angle sensor and a new fuel pump. (ouch)
A few weeks after getting the car back I found a sensor hanging loose in the vicinity of the gear linkage joiner behind the motor, This sensor is exactly the same as the sensor which is fitted into the front lefthand side of the block underneath the exhaust manifold. It has the same black sleeving over the wiring and retaining bracket.
I haven't had the opportunity of taking it back to the workshop as it is a long way from home and I don't want to make a special trip when the car seems to be running OK.
Can you give me any advice in this matter.
Thanks from Australia
