I've got no tips on removing a sender, as I've never managed to do it on a 9000. You may need a thin wall socket. It looks accessable with just the right socket. It shouldn't be that bad.
I don't think I've ever seen a bad oil pump - it's just two gears. And big, beefy gears. Anything that wears out an oil pump has taken out the engine long before. Yes, oil pumps lose efficiency over time, but rarely. The most common reason for low oil pressure is the pressure regulating valve. This is a little valve off the oil pump, that, well, regulates oil pressure. It uses a little piston and a spring. If the spring gets tired or breaks, the piston moves more easily, and it bypasses the pump, reducing the oil pressure. The spring can be access without removing the pump, I believe - from the outside.
