i was going to make a ram-air intake (still may) so i began removing the front center and left side splash guards (1995 CSE-T). These are the plastic pieces that protect the underside/belly of the 9000. Some bolts were difficult due to rust. Then, Iremovef the air filter from the engine side as you would normally change it.
Next, by going under the car, reach up and releash the holding medal pins. Some are difficult to pop so I used a small flathead screwdriver. I then pulled the outerhalf of the airbox cover through the lower hole.
At this point i realized a ram-air system is going to be a challenge, but is do-able. Since time was limited, i decided to leave as-is...meaning once the air filter is put back in correct place, the filter protudes (exposed) about 60-70% into the wheel well and is completely protected from water with splash guards in place. However, the air filter has nothing to hold it from falling out. So, there is a 1/2inch of rubber strip that extends into the wheel well from the outer body panel so i created a braket made from a strip of medal. I took the medal and bent it into an inverted 'U'(can also use an 'L' shape), then drilled a hole through it. Next, i took a self tapping screw and mounted it to the plastic strip. This way it prevents the air filter from jarring out-of-position.
Now, i basically have the same setup as the air induction kits for sale online. Execpt this mod was free and took a few hours.
Since the mod, i've driven a few hours....the results will not be life altering, but the car (5 spd) seems to breathe a bit better in higher rpms and the noise is very subtle, but does sounds better. OH, yeah...i also have a new K&N filter which is the same as the factory filter size.
