First rule of getting out of a hole - stop digging.

The first thing I'd do is find another shop. When someone demonstrates incompetence, don't try and convince them that they really can do it. Leave that to paid motivational speakers.

Yes, Saabs have lug bolts. I'm not going to get on them too bad for mixing up lug bolts/nuts. The important part is that the hexagonal things aren't coming off.

Sticking lug bolts is why I always spray my lugbolts with a little WD-40 before putting them into the hub. Otherwise, there can be some pretty impressive metal-to-metal bonding in the heat and corrosion environment of the hub.

Are the bolts stripped? Maybe. Probably just corroded in place.

So - what do you do? Find another shop. Let them know the last shop couldn't get the lug whatevers off. They'll spray them with some penetrating oil, and then get Big George with the impact wrench, and those bolts will come out.

If the bolts are indeed stripped, then replace them. They are cheap. The bolts are made of a softer metal than the hub, so the hub should be OK. The most you should ask the shop to do is to run a thread-chaser through the holes - this cleans out any metal left by the stripped bolt.

In fact, I'd just replace all the bolts anyway. At a minimum, they've seen corrosion, and probably been overstressed by removal. Lug bolt failures are no fun, and they are cheap.

The bolts just slide through the disk, and are threaded into the hub. The issue would be at the hub. But again, bolts are softer than the hub, so even if the bolts are stripped, the hub is probably fine.

As to busting sockets - no big deal - I've done that a bunch of times. I once went through three of them loosening one bolt on a set of Sonnet brakes. These were Blackhawk (Craftsman didn't have this particular weird size in 6-sided), and like Craftsman, have a free replacement. I went back to the shop and got a new one, three times in about two hours. Yeah, sockets break.

Leave these guys in the dust.
