the car is running great (with new plugs and a very low mileage di, possibly the best in the last 36,000 miles i've had it)
BUT i'd like to verify a couple noises before i sell this car cheaply with a clear conscience
1. as mentioned before a couple months ago, the 5-spd tranny humms when the car is in gear and under load (pulling or engine braking). shifts fine unless i try to shift quickly from first to second under hard acceleration then it grinds a bit (worn motor mount?)
anyway, i thought the hum went away in neutral or with clutch in, but today i checked and it still hums in neutral faintly (i think with clutch in too), just a quieter version of the same hum.
it was last suggested it was input or output shaft bearing. still the same thoughts? how long can a trans last with this humm? a few hundred bucks for a used tranny and an afternoon could fix it, which is what i'll tell whoever buys it, if such a person comes along, but i'd like to educate them well so they can make an informed decision.
2. have what i thought was normal valve chatter but its getting louder and i'm starting to think some of it is timing chain rattle. if this is the case, is there something relatively easy to do in order to correct this before it becomes a problem?
maybe i should record and make an mp3 out of it?
thanks
