if you don't think changing your fluid can make a difference!!
do you even know if you level is correct? low fluid will give a rev for sure...
first off on saabs you need to do this procedure annually, period. if you cannot change the fluid completely (such as removing a banjo fitting on the cooler) than you must do as Steve says and do the change a minimum of three times to change the fluid to get a majority of new fluid in the system.
pulling the filter and inspection of the magnet will tell you if there is converter bands or excessive chunks of metal coming of moving parts.
transmission fluid is a hydrolic fluid and if has impurities than it cannot function as a fluid.
lastly ATF is an oil based hydro fluid and acts as a lube too. i'm amazed when people tell me in 3+ years they have never changed auto fluid. for a car prone to AT issues if abused and ultra expensive ZF replacements you'd be insane not to...
