Bizarre Noise/Vibration: Wheel Bearing, CV, other?

Hi All,
My ’87 9kT has developed a strange noise and vibration. The noise occurs at all speeds and is a rhythmic with speed groaning sound (rather than a constant groaning, or grinding or squealing). It is coming from the passenger-side wheel area and is not effected by which way I am turning, or whether the clutch is in or out. However, it only occurs when coasting or decelerating and will instantly disappear with any amount of throttle. While I cannot hear the noise at high speeds, there is a moderate vibration at these speeds, whether coasting or accelerating, that I believe is related.
I have jacked up the wheel and the bearing sounds fine if I spin it by hand, and there is no play when I shake the tire in any direction. The axle nut is tight. I don’t know why a wheel bearing would only make a noise when I am coating or braking and not be effected by direction, by I don’t understand why a CV joint would groan instead of click. I am considering swapping the axle from by ’86 9kT.
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am supposed to drive from NC to NY tomorrow!
Thanks!
Craig
