The head gasket is leaking at the corners (which my '96 CSE does not do) but also a little along the front and back sides, but not a ton. I hadn't thought of retorquing the head bolts, which, as Ron notes, will make me replace the VC gasket. If I pull the trigger on this car, those things sound like a good approach. My indy and I discussed the HG and agreed that it could run like it is for a while, and he noted there are a lot of turbo Saabs running around with leaky HGs. I looked at the Haynes manual at lunch and while doing it myself is within my skill level, it's past my threshold of pain and especially the time to devote to it. So maybe some careful retorquing will do.
Am hoping the A/C issue is just O-rings. Indy wasn't sure. Concern is that the hoses are wedded to the condenser, which raises the ante on that work. At least it's 134R coolant, so it's cheap to recharge.
Agree also on the Water pump and the belts. Would do that myself anyway. Will clean it off first and drive a bit to see just how much the leakage is. Won't use Barr's, though. After trying it I decided I don't like the stuff and no longer have it in my '96. Not looking forward to the CV joint boots, but it looks messier than it is hard.
Thanks David and Ron.
