I recently bought a 1997 CSE to replace by 1990 (2 liter) Turbo. The '97 has much better low-end performance and is overall both faster and more refined. It's a great pleasure to drive. Passenger-side airbag is nice (don't know if UK models have this), although the lost glove box is a pain. One negative is that the leather on the 97 isn't as durable as the 1990.
It took quite a bit of work to get the 97 up to standard, and I still haven't unloaded the 1990 (market for these old cars is pretty thin), but overall I'm pleased.
