Rmc-there will not be a difference in blowing thur the filter from the inlet or the outlet. The reason to blow thur the filter is to get a handle on how it is:is it clogged or free flowing. Also by blowing thur the filter from the outlet you are going to get the loosen any particular pieces that the filter has trapped on it's surface and dislodge and washout with the backflowed gas remaining in the filter.Cap the glass jar and let the materials settle out. What i would like you to do at this point is to block the outlet end with a finger, pour some new gas in the inlet end(don't fill it all the way) ,place another finger over the inlet and Shake the filter. This will loosen more of the particles trap in the filter, then drain it thur the inlet end into the glass jar and again blow thur the outlet.Again, cover the jar and let it settle out. After the gas has setteled out examine the gas for water and the particle type, place a magnet in the jar and see if you collect any steel particles,or are they aluminum, shiney. What you find out here should help you decide if you need to pull the pump to clean out the tank or not...
Now to address the gas filter, when blowing thur a new dry gas filter you should not bulge your checks out, evan when it's wet with fuel.If when blowing thur the old/used gas filter when it's wet with fuel-your checks bulge out the filter needs to be exchanged for a new one.Stick with a Bosch filter, not a cheeper import filter.
The fuel preasure won't open when you apply the vacume, but it does change the preasure the regulator controls. You would need it connected to a air source and a preasure guage to see if it works properly.
Report back with the gas settling results.
