Hello everybody.
I've posted a few times before about this but I wanted to lay it all out in one place so that maybe somebody out there can get me going in the right direction.
Vehicle: 1992 Saab 9000 Turbo (5dr) with 210,000 miles. Turbo was replaced with a used unit about 30,000 miles ago. Head was rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago.
I've been having a problem getting above base boost when the engine is cold. On particularly cold days it will take about 10 minutes before I am able to get full boost. Sometimes this problem will reoccur after drving the car for 20-30 minutes and then go away again. It is almost gauranteed though that I will not get above base boost until the engine is good and warm. There's probably a 50% chance that I will only have base boost again at some point during my 40 mile drive to work.
I've had the car at my indy several times for this and a few other issues. The following have been replaced in the last 10,000 miles:
fuel pump
AMM
turbo bypass valve
BPC valve
spark plugs
air filter
cat and both mufflers
02 sensor
ABS brain (replaced with a '93 unit to implement TCS turn off)
A new DI was put on but produced no noticable difference so it was removed. The problem went away for about three days after replacing the BPC but returned the same as before.
I took the car to a second indy and they were unable to figure it out either. The first indy indicated that their may be a problem with the throttle body but that it may or may not be related to my boost problem.
I'd really appreciate any help that you care to give. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but I have NO experience with turbocharged engines so everything is really new and unknown to me. If you're able to offer up any help, please be sure to be detailed so that I don't do more harm than good. :-) Thanks.
Chris
