May I suggest a few things before deciding on a headgasket.
1. Rough start/idling issue may be one of two things. Weak battery and/or DI cassette. If your battery and DI is relatively new, never mind.
2. Usually, Saab Trionic engines are notorious for head bolt loosening. Many think it is head gasket and bypass this simple step to check. Usually the loosened bolt is the one towards the front and driver side of the car. Take off the valve cover and check the bolts. My '96 900SE Turbo had Coolant in oil and was loosing lots of coolants. I even saw coolant gushing out from where I described above. I didn't know it at the time and proceeded straight to HG. I had ordered all parts and took out all the piping and manifolds before opening up the valve cover finally to loosen the head bolt and the bolts were VERY loose. I was halfway there anyways, so went ahead and did it anyways. But a simple retorque would have sufficed for a while. So definitely try the re-torquing before embarking on the HG.
3. Some other things to fix if you ARE going through HG. If you are going to have your cylinder head cleaned and surface machined, you might want to replace the valve stem seals. Crank cover (main seal).
Oops, wifes calling... I'll post later to finish.
