Well, a good starting point would be Quasi's site (see link below). There is a buyer's guide and model history. The 9000 evolved and improved over 10+ years and a late car (the last ones were sold in 1998) is the best bet.
I've just traded in my '93 9000 CSE automatic for a 1997 model with fewer miles, so you can probably tell what I think about your question!
Any nine-year old car is bound to have its issues, and from experience with the '93 these might include:
Heater core; head gasket; coolant hose problems; corroded wiring, eg. to cooling fan; radiator (A/T fluid leaking into coolant); and expecially the automatic transmission, which has a reputation for going "ping" at just about the mileage of the car you're looking at. There is plenty of plumbing and electronics but nothing to defeat an organised and logical approach, helped by the resources of this board of course!
However, all these things are easy enough to fix so if you are tempted, suggest you factor in about $2,500 for a rebuilt transmission some time in the next two years, and go for it - subject to all the usual caveats when buying a used car.
I have no doubt that the 9000 is one of the best car designs ever produced, with the added bonus of the hatch. Just be sure to buy a turbo, if only for the pleasure of driving a powerful car slowly!
