I'd stick with the 9-5

I've got two '95 9000s, and really like the cars. They are also both manual transmissions and I do most of the work on them myself. The auto, as Bill indicates, is rumored to have about a 100k life. This is an age where a lot of little stuff starts to go bad, and if you are paying a mechanic standard hours and wages, can cost a lot. If the car has had great maintenence, with all scheduled changes to fluids done on time, then it would be well worth considering, tranny or no.
The 9000 has tons of usable room, and is comfortable to drive. I've also heard that the 9-5 is a great driver, even better.
Not knowing anything about the 9000, I'd advise you to find a good 9-5. Should be able to get 2002s for under $15000 soon. Then change your fluids and do maintenence, and your car will be good for 200k.
