Green wire to Alternator D+, oil pump rejuvenation 88T Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Sat, 26 Mar 2005 16:18:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Started the 88 today for the first time since last fall. I've done done a bit of work to it over the winter, including replacing the VR. Only problem I noticed at startup was no more than battery voltage(11.8v) across the battery terminals when the engine was running. I also don't have a battery light when I turn on the key, although I think I may have before the first startup. The green wire wasn't very healthy looking when I hooked it up. I shortened it where it was frayed and wrapped it with tape but and suspect it may be questionable. Would appreciate guidance from those who've replaced it especially where I might find the other end.
While things were apart, I also replaced the crank pulley, seal, and the oil pump o-ring. I followed Townsend's advice and lightly wet sanded the pump part faces with 220 grit on a piece of glass. I also packed the gears with vaseline. I cranked the engine first with the coil wire and fuel pump fuse disconnected. The oil pressure light went out quickly and when I did start the engine it was very quiet for having sit all winter. It may be early to say, but the procedure seems worth doing.
