The aging of the 9000 population means that they will be fewer and farther between. And the percentage of 'dogs' will increase. We picked up a '97, because we know that in a few years, nice ones will be very thin on the ground. There will be some, owned by folks that keep after the maintenance. And a bunch of ragged ones, in the hands of 'sport owners', and others with dents and aftermarket stereos. My wife coined 'sport owners' - folks that buy them looking nice, run them for a couple of years with little or no maintenance, and then sell them for about what they paid for them.

I saw a bunch of cars when I was looking this summer. A few were quite nice - I missed a 70K mile one out of a used-car lot in Cheshire for about $5K - very clean. There is a place in Fairfield (Fairfield motors) that takes traded-in 9K's from Greenwich and Norwalk Saab. A little pricier.

With time an patience, there are a lot of private cars, pretty cheap. As always, patience is the key. I saw a bunch of cars that were pretty scary. There were a few that would qualify as good project potential. I was looking for a real solid car needing minimal work, just some maintenance. I got lucky (if perseverence = luck) with a car with extensive maintenance records. I still needed to put about $500 into it, but I considered that cheap (rotors, belt, pulleys, upper mounts, this and that).
There are enough driveable ones out there to pass on the non-runners. If it were really cheap, and you've got room to let it sit, it could be a parts car.
