Traces of fuel pump current draw

Was it a scope trace? That would be better, since it can show a dip in the current as it passes a dead spot, but I wonder if a simple DMM current measurement might be able to reveal impending problems.
Not sure which way it would go as the pump approaches end-of-life; could go up or maybe go down as the current draw is interrupted by dead spots.
I can at least compare my new pump with the other one, which has been in service for a while, to see if there's much difference.
