Disclaimer:
I am about to post info that is 100% factual, but I will
only say I have seen this stuff to be true with my own eyes,
but not where or how I saw it - thence possibly avoiding any
vehemence and statistical debates about explosive devices as
a normal part of a car's dashboard !!

Now that is out of the way - if a person had a '94+ Aero and
they wanted a glovebox, it can be done, and here are some
highlights of the process:

1 - Get a matching, 2nd hand glovebox (with attached vent)
from a boneyard for about $20-25 - and make sure you keep
all the hardware !

2 - Disconnect your battery and wait 1/2 hour.

3 - Remove the little carpet strip on the lower right of
the center console - 2 trim fasteners and untuck it...

4 - The SRS controller is the only electronic gadget in
there, under a cover, with one big connector, held on by
2 10mm head hex bolts - it says SRS on it and has a big
arrow pointing at the front end - remove this completely.

5 - Remove 2 Torx bolts in back of steering wheel and 1
wiring connector, withdraw the device there.

6 - Carefully loosen the odd-headed nuts, but leave them
attached;

7 - Using a good sized, sharp bit, drill out the 8(?)
soft aluminium rivet heads.

8 - Loosen the last bit of the nuts, remove and safely
discard the explosive device; replace the (now safe)
steering wheel cushion.

9 - Take a deep breath (this all takes patience, muscles
and a keen eye !) and carefully pry out the emblem on the
front of the passenger side explosive device cover.

10 - Unscrew hidden bolt, find all the others around it's
perimeter and remove them as well - then pry off the
front panel - this is hard, and if someone knows how
to do it easier - please share that info !

11 - Find and remove the 4 - 12mm (?) hex head bolts that
are the main fastenings.

12 - Remove the wiring connector from the big explosive
canister, remove and dispose of it (and it is BIG too !!).

13 - The assembly will now lift out as long as you have
found all the fastenings and removed them...

14 - There is a huge foamy shock block on a steel thing
with criss-crossed straps and sturdy looking brackets;
this must come out and it is held on by impossible to
get at flat-headed rivets - the good news - it's arms
can be cut with aviator snips in good strong hands, and
it's remains will break off with persistent bending.

15 - Using a hacksaw, carefully separate the vent from
the rest of the glovebox with a single, straight incision.

16 - Bolt up your new glovebox !!!

17 - Replace the trim.

Optional - connect the glovebox illumination wires if
desired...remove dashtop and instrument panel and remove
both the SRS light bulbs from the pictogram (and that
NASTY shift-up bulb !!), remove the SRS warnings from the
dash sides and replace the steering wheel with one that
does not say 'SRS'

You now have a great car with a glovebox instead of it's
previous OEM explosive devices - and you can enjoy the
feeling of security one may have, knowing that they can
no longer EVER 'go off' by accident when there isn't any
call for them to go off, as so many have.
As a bonus - your new glovebox also has it's original
fusebox door, with spare fuses !!

Happy Saabing !
