it is very rare to have time to brace in a collision, much less take an assumed position. The airbag deployment is measured in thousandths of a second. When an unbelted driver (or passenger) is thrown forward by braking or a soft onset of the collision (or tries to hug the steering wheel), the proximity to the deploying airbag is very often fatal. Ribs crush under the force, causing percussive lacerations of the liver, spleen, heart, etc. If you are wearing your seatbelt, you would also be extending extra belt when you want it least, by leaning forward prior to the collision.
On the other hand, try not to brace with elbows and knees locked. That can lead to fractures of the long bones or very troublesome joints. It may sound ridiculous, but relax, sit back, and let the seat belt and airbag do their jobs.
Putting your arms up will also add to the crash hazard by putting them between your face and the airbag. I've seen one woman paralyzed from socking herself in the jaw as the airbag propelled her arm backward.
THE AIRBAG IS A SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT. ALWAYS USE YOUR SEATBELT. Since you've chosen Saab, you already have one of the best production seat belt systems in the world.
