If you want the definitive treatis on the subject, Quasi's page is very comprehensive. I can tell you that the 5 speed from the 9000S has a higher final drive ratio, so it might not be desireable. Some people have done it and were satisfied with the results, but it won't be as relaxed on the highway because the engine will be turning faster. There is also something about a switch to diable the shift up indicator when the car is in 5th gear. This switch appears in the early years, but is not needed in later years because the fuel injection computer was programmed to figure out the gear from the road speed. (Probably happend when Saab swithed to an electric speedometer--87 or 88?)
