If the ignition is working, it's virtually impossible to flood a modern FI car.
You say the plugs look like they've had it - I assume that means grungy and old. Replacing them with the exact right NGK's specified in the manual, gapped per the manual, is the first step. If it's an ignition problem, trying to get the engine to start without good plugs is a losing proposal.
The next question is if the DI cassette is working. The DI is the device on top of the spark plugs, and contains an individual coil for each plug. DI's do fail. If it were dead, the car wouldn't start.
With fresh plugs in the car, I'd try it again. Don't crank for a long time, just for 6 or 7 seconds. Keep your foot off the gas pedal - if that doesn't work, apply a very slightly open throttle. Never floor it, because if you floor the throttle while starting, the ECU shuts off the fuel pump. Definately won't start then. Does it sound like it wants to start, or does it simply crank? If it doesn't catch after a couple of tries, hop out and pull the DI off, and pull out a spark plug. Does it smell of fuel? If it doesn't smell of fuel, it may be a fuel pump problem. If it smells strongly of fuel, it may be the DI.
There's more troubleshooting to do, but that's a start.
